DotJot Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 2026

Your privacy is extremely important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how DotJot collects, uses, and protects your personal information.

Information We Collect

Journal Data You Create: DotJot stores the content you create in the app, including entries, habits, tasks, events, notes, custom lists, list items, people assignments, and settings. This data is stored locally on your device. We do not have direct access to your content.

Backup and Export: DotJot creates a JSON backup file locally on your device that you can save or share. If you choose to save that file to Google Drive or another provider, the transfer is user-initiated through your device's share sheet. DotJot does not store your Google/Drive credentials and does not perform background backup without your action.

Usage Information: We do not collect analytics, tracking data, or usage statistics. Your activity within the app remains completely private in both free and Pro versions.

Device Information: The app may access basic device information (such as platform and version) only when you submit feedback or bug reports, and only if you choose to include it.

How We Use Your Information

  • Your journal data is used solely to provide app functionality and is not transmitted outside your device unless you explicitly export or share it.
  • Your data is exported locally as a JSON backup file and stored on your device or shared only with your consent.
  • If you choose to save backups to Google Drive or another provider, authentication is handled by that provider (OAuth) through your device; DotJot does not store your credentials.
  • Feedback and bug reports you voluntarily submit may be used to improve the app.

Data Storage and Security

Local Storage (All Users): Your app content is stored locally on your device. We do not run a hosted DotJot database that copies your journal content by default.

Backup to Cloud Providers: Backup files are generated locally on your device. If you decide to store a backup in Google Drive or another cloud app, that destination and sign-in flow are controlled by your device/provider. DotJot does not store provider credentials.

Security Measures: DotJot uses basic technical safeguards including schema validation for imported files, file size limits, integrity checks for backup/share files, and limited production error disclosure. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure.

Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information. Sharing in DotJot is user-initiated: content is sent from one user to another via share links/files. DotJot does not access or store the shared content payload.

We may disclose your information only in the following circumstances:

  • With your explicit consent.
  • To comply with legal obligations or respond to valid legal processes.
  • To protect the rights, property, or safety of the app, users, or others.

Your Rights and Choices

  • Access: You have full access to all your data stored within the app at any time.
  • Modification: You can edit or update your journal entries and settings at any time.
  • Deletion: You can delete individual entries or all your data through the app settings.
  • Export: You can export your data as a JSON backup file for personal backup or data portability.
  • Opt-Out: You can choose not to use optional features like cloud backup at any time.

Third-Party Services

DotJot does not integrate with third-party analytics, ad networks, or tracking SDKs for behavior profiling. Your journal content stays local unless you choose to export/share it.

If you choose to save a backup/export to Google Drive or another provider, that provider's terms and privacy policy apply to storage at that destination.

Children's Privacy

DotJot is intended for general audiences and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through normal app use. If a parent or guardian believes a child has submitted personal information to us through support or feedback channels, contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Data Retention

Your journal data is retained on your device until you choose to delete it. If you delete the app without backing up your data, all local information will be permanently removed.

If you save backup/export files to Google Drive or another provider, retention is controlled by you within that provider account.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. We will notify you of any material changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy and, where appropriate, by displaying a notice within the app.

Your continued use of the app after any changes indicates your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
